Corporate Social Responsibility Certification
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is an approach to business in which companies seek to preserve the balance between people, profit and the planet. The right balance leads to better results for the company and society. To establish whether companies operate in sustainable ways, the Metaalunie joined forces with the Stichting Adviescentrum Metaal to develop the CSR monitor. The monitor is based on NEN-ISO 26000, an international standard for corporate social responsibility. The CSR monitor was used to make an appraisal of the ROTO companies in the following areas: environment, working conditions, human rights, business integrity, involvement and end-user interests.
Galvanisation is a heavy industry and it is widely perceived as being “dirty”. The ROTO surface treatment companies are doing their utmost to shake off this image. Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard was the first galvanisation company in the Netherlands with an ISO 14001 (environment) certificate and it is still one of the few companies in its branch to have this certificate. Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard and Verzinkerij Wolvega also have ISO 9001(quality control) certification. Corporate social responsibility is the standard for the 21st century and it is very much in the spotlight. So CSR certification was the logical next step for the ROTO surface treatment companies.
The certification shows that corporate social responsibility is a part of the business philosophy at Rotocoat Dieren, Rotocoat Heerhugowaard, Rotocoat Kampen and Rotocoat Wolvega. CSR does not stop at certification. To achieve a sustainable result, every business decision has to achieve the right balance between people, planet and profit!
