New zinc kettle for Rotocoat Heerhugowaard

September 2021 - The new zinc kettle has arrived at Rotocoat in Heerhugowaard. The replacement of the kettle was originally planned during the summer break. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a delay in the kettle’s delivery. Now the replacement of the kettle is planned for the break during the Christmas period.

The zinc kettle is in use continuously. During the galvanising process, the kettle gradually dissolves. The zinc in the bath bonds to the iron in the kettle walls. Pieces of this iron/zinc compound then sink to the bottom of the pan. As time passes, the walls of the kettle become thinner. To prevent cracks, the kettle is replaced approximately every 7 years.

The kettle is 15,6 x 1,8 x 3 meter in size and weighs 66.750 kg. The bath is made of a special steel alloy and will  filled with 600,000 kgs of liquid zinc with a temperature of 450°C.

Of course, before the zinc kettle is replaced, and afterwards as well, you are welcome at Rotocoat to galvanise your materials up to lengths of 15.5 meters, or up to 25 meters when double dipping. Because the zinc bath at Rotocoat Heerhugowaard is and remains, the longest zinc bath in the Netherlands.
